Mounting new bracings

Steel plates at the chain plates

Steel plates

In order to absorb the enormous forces of the shrouds and to redistribute them to the keel, appropriately sized new steel parts - chain plate reinforcements - are integrated into the hull section. The chain plates will be screwed onto the plates later.

This zinc-coated steel plate is 2,96 m (10 ft) long, 50 cm (20 inches) high (tapered to 25 cm - 10 inches at the end), 5 mm thick and weighs over 40 kg (90 pounds).

The original plates had to be replaced due to corrosion.

Bracing to redistribute forces to the inner hull

Bracing

Six vertical and two diagonal braces on either side will redistribute the forces resting on the steel plates, which come from the chain plates, to both sides of the keel.
