Construction group 9: Working on the deck

Removing the deck beams

After the lead ballast was mounted onto to the 12-metre R-Yacht we were able to begin work on the deck in October 2005.

Removal of the deck beams

The next phase began straight away with the removal of the old deck beams and the complete replacement of the deck.

The cross beams laid out neatly here show the slightly positive camber of beam or round of deck - the upward curvature of the deck.
On the one hand it facilitates the draining of water, and on the other hand it increases the steadfastness of the crew.

Covered

The hull was completely covered with a thick plastic cover to protect it from any damage during the extensive work.

Ascending to the deck

Ascent

A walkway was set up at a particular height around the Anitra so that the boat builders could easily carry out their work on the deck.

Here you can see the ascent to the deck on the starboard side of the yacht.
