Dismantling the stem

Divided up

The stem is made up of several parts that have been lashed together. As you can see, the lower part, which usually rests directly on keel base, has already been dismantled.

Lower part dismantled

The bottom of the wedge-shaped tip lies directly on the keel base.

Decaying

Due to its decaying condition, the stem broke apart while being dismantled.

Broken

This part of the stem was so decayed that it broke apart while being dismantled.
